Headstall - 2024 - commission by MCAH Lusanne 'Autobigraphy of a Saddle' a show responding to a Métis beaded saddle from the 1820s. This work sits alongside pieces by my dear ones David Heinrichs, Vi Houssin, Claire Johnston and Jennine Krauchi.

Headstall - 2024 - moosehide, glass beads, porcupine quills, wool, recycled copper, cedar, sage, sweetgrass & tobacco.

Headstall - 2024 - This neckpiece references the shape of a headstall (the leather part of a bridle that secures the bit and reins to a horse’s head). Free of those elements of control, the piece features a beaded eye at the center of the ‘browband’ and quilled tabs at each copper ring that hold the 4 sacred medicines.

Headstall - 2024 - If worn by a horse, the eye would sit at the center of their forehead and medicine tabs at each temple. Worn by a human, these elements sit on the chest.
